Hi there!

This week, Amazon.com started to take orders for Windows Vista, even though no official launch date has been set for the operating system. Vista, which is the first Microsoft operating system since 2001's Windows XP, will ship in four different versions. Prices have already been set. Bill Gates recently admitted that Vista is only about 80 per cent certain of shipping publicly in January.

Lycos has partnered with video search engine Blinkx to provide new audio and video search functions to its entertainment portal. The deal enables Lycos users to access search results from Blinkx's index of more than five million hours of searchable video content, including TV and news clips, short documentaries, and music videos.

It's been talked about for years, but finally Google has got its hands on out-of-copyright books so it can offer them in digital format for free. Google has been scanning books from libraries, including those at Harvard University, Stanford University, Oxford University and the New York Public Library. Titles in PDF format include Isaac Newton's Principia, Aesop's Fables and Dante's Inferno.

Finally, the Royal Mail is contemplating firing postman Roger Annies after he told residents how to avoid junk mail from being delivered to their doors. Maybe there's a job for him somewhere in the world of online anti-spam instead!

That's all from us this week, have a great weekend.
