Hi there!

You know that summer is officially over and the Christmas season has begun when Apple hosts a big media event. This week, the company made a series of announcements: an even smaller iPod shuffle, a revamped nano that comes in different mini-like colours and capacities of up to 8GB, and a new version of the video iPod that doesn't go as far as many have hoped, yet features a much brighter screen, longer battery life and software tweaks. The biggest news, however, was the movie download service. iTunes 7 will initially feature about 75 films, all courtesy of the Disney studios, which will cost between $10 and $14. Unfortunately, we're kept on tenterhooks in the UK again. Apple expects to roll out the new service in early 2007 over here.

BT is to launch a UK version of the hugely popular PodShow site. BT PodShow will feature productions from the entertainment and music industry, but also encourage members of the public to submit their own material, the best of which will not only appear on the site but could also be shown on BT Vision, BT's new broadband television service. In the US, PodShow features one million individual episodes, more than 130 categories of shows and 10 to 15 million downloads a month.

Don't forget, the new issue of .net goes on sale on Wednesday (20 September). It's another packed issue in which we take an in-depth look at the colours of web design, podcasting and lifehacking. There's also an exclusive interview with Flickr founder Caterina Fake, an opinion piece by CSS creator Håkon Wium Lie and tons of practical tutorials.

That's all from us this week, have a great weekend.
