If you haven’t already noticed the new podcast tab on the .net website, then you’re missing out. That’s right, .net has teamed up with some of the web’s finest designers and developers to bring the .net podcast, available to download now from iTunes. In the first podcast with editor Dan Oliver and magazine regulars Paul Boag, Andy Budd, Christian Heilmann and Gary Marshall, the impact of Apple’s iPhone is examined, how to get a job as a web developer, plus what IE7’s 100 millionth download means for web. Download it now!

The BBC is planning to launch an online virtual world for children. Aimed at 7 to 12–year–olds, the CBBC World site will let users build an online character and then create and share content, much like Second Life.

More than 30 charities and community groups across the UK have received grants of £2,500, and Microsoft’s internet and Office software to help disadvantaged people learn IT skills. Around 400 UK voluntary organisations applied for the grant through the awards scheme, which is being run for the third year by Microsoft UK Ltd and Citizens Online.
