This week, the new top level domain, .mobi, opened for the general public. You can register sites that are specifically designed for mobile phones and similar handheld devices. One its first day, more than 75,000 domain names were registered, yet many names were already taken, as more than 13,000 companies had snapped up names since May, when .mobi opened for trademark holders. Jonathan Robinson, COO of Easily.co.uk, said: "Although it's not technically necessary, you and me could just as easily put fully mobile compliant content behind our .eu or .com name. The fact that you're guaranteed mobile compliant content behind the .mobi domain name is very attractive."
Apple, meanwhile, is taking legal action against businesses that use the word 'pod'. The corporation's lawyers claim that customers could confuse software like myPodder with Apple products. Surely they should be happy that their megaseller constantly gets free publicity?!
In other news, a three-year-old from Lincolnshire treated himself to a £9k car on eBay. The mother of the computer whiz had left her password on the computer and her son just pressed all the right buttons to win the auction of a pink Nissan Figaro. To his parents' delight, the seller thought it was hilarious and readvertised the car.
