EDITORIAL INTRO FOR ISSUE 196

“How can any self-respecting editor of a web magazine admit to such a thing?”

I have a confession to make: I don’t own an iPhone. I know; it’s shocking. How can any self-respecting editor of a web design (and let’s not forget development) magazine admit to such a thing? There are various reasons, but the main one is this: I hate people who don’t engage, and spend hours glued to a tiny screen. Start checking your phone whilst in my presence – having a meal, chatting over a beer – and chances are I’ll cut you short with swift rebuke. I mean, come on, it’s just bloody rude!

But resistance is becoming more and more difficult. Killer app after killer app is hitting the device (I’m looking at you, TVCatchup!), and it’s expected that the arrival of Vodafone and Orange as official partners in the UK will drive prices down, and spark a price war in 2010.

However, if I do give in, and you see me gawping into my iPhone in one of the situations I’ve outlined above, you have my permission to punch me. Hard.
