/Flash/ Create an interactive poster

30/06/2010 | Filed under Develop > Flash

Adrian Rowbotham of digital production agency Pirata London explains how to make a poster that users can customise with their own text and photo

This tutorial is adapted from a larger ‘poster generator’ application, which is part of putonapanto.com‚ a campaign site we created for Robinsons drinks. This enables the user to customise a poster by changing the text and uploading an image of their own face. It involves too many steps to list in full from start to finish, so instead I’ll focus on a few of the more interesting areas and leave the rest for you to look at or pick from as you see fit. The main aim is to provide some useful code that I hope you can learn a few things from.

The original version enabled the user to download their poster as a highres PDF. There are AS3 libraries available to implement creation of a PDF entirely in the Flash Player (eg code.google.com/p/alivepdf/), but it’s too much to bundle into one demo, so I’m afraid you’ll have to make do with a screengrab of your masterpiece!
