/PHP/ Edit and enhance your images

Paul Hudson illustrates how to warp, stretch, rotate and improve your existing artwork using PHP, saving your artists hours of work in the process
As a regular Linux user, I’m all too familiar with the phenomenon of “programmer art”. This is where J. Random Coder comes up with a great idea for a computer game, uses elite skills to put together the code fairly quickly, but then realises that the game looks rubbish because the best art that he or she can put together looks like a four-year-old’s crayon sketch. Well, this issue, I’m going to be creating programmer art, but with a difference: I’m going to be using PHP to merge professional artwork with my own changes, which should mean that the end result looks pretty good!
The project I’ll outline in this tutorial involves taking existing JPEG and PNG files, loading them into PHP, then improving, customising and editing them. Discover how to do this and your artists can spend less time monotonously knocking out identikit artwork, and more time working on important things such as CSS and site templates.
