EDITORIAL INTRO FOR ISSUE 166
“What I suffer from aren’t bouts of digital depression, they’re more like jolts of indifference”
Having written about the net for the last decade, I sometimes feel like I should be getting a bit more excited about developments in the web world. What I suffer from aren’t bouts of digital depression, they’re more like jolts of indifference. For instance, I have absolutely no compulsion to join MySpace, and never will. And while the world and his dog seem to be collecting friends the way I used to collect football stickers (that QPR badge was a bugger to find), I feel like I’m on the outside looking in.
Thankfully, Apollo (now AIR), Silverlight, and Gears have appeared on the scene. These technologies are creating a real buzz among designers and developers, and I have to admit that they’ve got me excited about the web again. It could be that this initial excitement is unfounded, but I don’t think so. In the coming year, we should see some amazing applications, which will blur the boundaries between the desktop and the web, and I’ll be as happy as Larry – so long as no one mentions MySpace!
