I don’t know about you, but I’ve had enough of people messing with the net. If it isn’t industry bodies trying to curtail its egalitarian nature, it’s thick-as-two-short-planks senators taking the lobbyist dollar, and getting involved in issues they simply don’t understand.
Until recently these groups and individuals (we’ll call them ‘idiots’) have been met with the widespread derision they deserve, but the tide is turning. The wellpublicised debate taking place in the US surrounding net(work) neurality – the underlying principle that net users control the content they view and the applications they use – has shifted in favour of the idiots. This is not good.
The net neutrality debate may be taking place in the US Senate, but the onus is on all of us to make a noise and ensure that, as consumers and voters, the idiots know what we think of their plans.
