EDITORIAL INTRO FOR ISSUE 164
"I have colleagues who think that being busy all the time proves that you’re doing your job well"
In this month’s Profile we ask the question, “work to live, or live to work?”, which makes me think about the perfect work/life balance we all strive to achieve. Thankfully, I work for an organisation that has embraced flexible working for its employees, but sometimes it takes more than a forward-thinking employer to help you get the right balance. It also requires that you change your mindset, too.
I have a lot of colleagues who think that being busy all the time proves that you’re doing your job well, but in a creative environment, I couldn’t argue more strongly against this kind of thinking. Achieving the right balance between work and home won’t just make you happy, I actually believe that it will also make you more creative and productive.
So, next time you feel the urge to open your laptop and check your emails, go for a walk in your local park instead, take the time to play with your kids, or simply gaze out of the window with a mug of tea, because no one ever found inspiration in their Gmail account.
