This week, EURid, the European Registry for Internet Domains, suspended 74,000 .eu names, citing registrar abuse as the reason. Around 400 registrars are being sued for breach of contract after they were discovered to be reselling the names as well as providing registration. The companies, instead of only registering their real active registrars, created hundreds of ‘phantom’ registrars as well. After several months of investigation EURid concluded the system had been abused and the outcome of the suspended domains is awaiting a court decision. It is likely most names will be available for registration again.

TV search engine Blinkx has launched SelfcastTV for phone users to publish movies directly to the web via text message. Clips published to the site feature in a similar way to YouTube, and the site also lets users add their favourites to a channel and watch the videos together as one movie.
